Don’t Allow ‘Recess Appointments’
Contact your representatives
The US Senate is responsible for vetting and confirming a President’s cabinet nominees. This is one of the ‘checks and balances’ in our democracy. But Donald Trump has threatened to use a loophole known as “Recess Appointments,” which can allow a president to act on his own when the Senate is not in session.
How would it work?
The Senate would have to be in recess.
Both chambers would have to vote to go into recess. The Constitution requires that neither the US Senate or House adjourn for three days or more without the consent of the other.
Trump could try to Force Senate to Recess.
Article II of the Constitution allows a president to adjourn one or both chambers of Congress under certain circumstances, including if the House and Senate disagree about when to be in session.
