Support the Constitutional Amendments in Virginia
WORTH FIGHTING FOR
WORTH FIGHTING FOR -
Virginia’s three Constitutional Amendments carried over from the 2024 Session:
HJ1 – Fundamental right to reproductive freedom
HJ2 – Right to vote – restoration of rights
HJ3 – Marriage equality
WORTH FIGHTING FOR
Reproductive Health
Virginian should have access to affordable, quality healthcare, including abortion and birth control, with the freedom to make private reproductive choices. Abortion must remain safe, legal, and guided by medical professionals. Protecting reproductive rights safeguards other freedoms, such as marriage equality, contraception access, and privacy in personal decisions. The right to choose also supports racial and economic equality, as marginalized communities face greater barriers to adequate healthcare. Reproductive decisions affect overall well-being, including financial stability, housing, employment, and family support.
Voting Rights Restoration
Most Virginians believe all qualified citizens deserve voting rights, including those who’ve served felony sentences and people with disabilities who wish to vote. I support a constitutional amendment for automatic rights restoration upon sentence completion, with no extra steps, and to protect the voting rights of people with disabilities unless a court rules otherwise. Voting rights should not be permanently lost due to past mistakes. Virginia should amend its Constitution to ensure fair restoration and foster civic participation.
Marriage Equality
Virginia’s marriage equality ban no longer reflects the beliefs of its citizens. A 2021 poll showed 71% of Virginians support same-sex marriage, up from just 47% in 2006, highlighting a major shift in public opinion. Given this change, it’s time to remove the outdated ban from Virginia’s constitution. With the rollback of Roe v. Wade, national marriage equality could also be at risk, and Virginia should lead in protecting all citizens' rights. If the state truly is “for lovers,” it must affirm that love is love for everyone.
